Digital Technologies Resource

Background Information for Teachers

This resource has been created for teachers in year 4 that are teaching students about Digital Technologies. The objective is that students will be able to create a video with a group of students discussing the impact of a digital footprint and ways people can manage or reduce their footprint.

The resource integrates the Literacy general capability as within the assessment students are to create a written element to be assessed. To facilitate for differentiation, the teacher will provide students with a scribe if extra time is required or if the student is unable to write. The student is to express their ideas and answers to the scribe and they are to only write those words down for the student.

The resource is an assessment task sheet and marking rubric. The resource is heavily based on the following Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies content descriptions and elaborations:

Strand: Digital Technologies Knowledge and Understanding

Content Description: Identify and explore a range of digital systems with peripheral devices for different purposes, and transmit different types of data (ACTDIK007).

Elaboration: Using different peripheral devices to display information to others, for example using a mobile device, interactive whiteboard or a data projector to present information.

Strand: Digital Technologies Processes and Production Skills

Content Description: Plan, create and communicate ideas and information independently and with others, applying agreed ethical and social protocols (ACTDIP013).

Elaboration: Considering ways of managing the use of social media to maintain privacy needs, for example activating privacy settings to avoid divulging personal data such as photographs, addresses, and names and recognising that all digital interactions are difficult to erase (digital footprints).
